A week after the Tugboat gig and I’d have to say that it went pretty well. It was a fairly crazy week leading up to the gig with frequent practices, constant lack of sleep and family in hospital. The day it self left me painfully aware that I had never organised a gig before when a couple of reasonably crucial components of the P.A. (that I had never heard of) weren’t included. But luckily Alex was able to do a bit of a work around and we were all rolling and only a couple of hours late for sound check (and he said he’d never done sound before, ha).

From the get go things went pretty smoothly. Riverblind arrived a timely 5 minutes before the start of their set and blasted out some epic tunes which, unfortunately, I had to listen to from the ticket desk on the gangway (as organising someone to man the desk what one of the jobs I had neglected to do). Next was The Botanics who pumped out an energetic and funky set (and even covered my favourite Brian Jonestown Massacre song). Last, but hopefully not least, we were up. We played a somewhat intoxicated set, if not a little blurry, but it sure was fun and I think we all went pretty hard. In fact, Jaap went so hard he bashed Stefan’s snare skin until it looked like the surface of the moon.

It was a hella fun night in the end and I’m sure Chloe and Aaron had sweet birthdays. The next day, however, wasn’t quite as fun as the P.A. had to be returned at 10am, I hadn’t been to sleep yet and when giving Chloe a ride to her car in the morning we found that it had been towed.

Still, I regret nothing. Bring on San Fran.

Introducing to the stage… Phantom Tollbooth Music . Com

Welcome to our new tree hut. Some news.
Preparations seem to be going well with our two upcoming shows. The first being on the 26th of September at Tugboat with The Botanics and Riverblind. After the apparent success of our Hole in the Wall gig we headed straight for the deep end and organised our own headline gig. The occasion is also a celebration of the birthdays of Chloe (our singer, fools), Aaron (drummer from Botanics) and if I remember correctly, someone called Bronwyn, who I’m sure is just as epic. It’s only 5 bucks on the door and it smells better than the pub.

The following week we’ll be melting your face at San Francisco Bathhouse with Over the Atlantic, Familty Cactus, Calamity Jam and Alphabethead for the 350 Wellington Launch Party. It’s gonna be a large night and I’m quite excited to be playing at the bathhouse.

It’s also been confirmed that we’re taking the stage at the Battle of the Bands on October the 21st. The first round is at Bodega. It’ll be a good chance to get some exposure, regardless of how well we do. Come and show some support (and tits)

Aside from my constant gear troubles (I left my cymbals at the pub last time we played and snapped my snare stand in half last night at practice ) we seem to making good progress and will be looking to record an ep. during October, once the heat from our next two gigs has cooled.

ps. If the site looks strange to you, can you send me an email to jake@loudthought.co.nz telling me what looks weird, and what web browser you’re viewing it in.
