Tollbooth on the Tugboat

A week after the Tugboat gig and I’d have to say that it went pretty well. It was a fairly crazy week leading up to the gig with frequent practices, constant lack of sleep and family in hospital. The day it self left me painfully aware that I had never organised a gig before when a couple of reasonably crucial components of the P.A. (that I had never heard of) weren’t included. But luckily Alex was able to do a bit of a work around and we were all rolling and only a couple of hours late for sound check (and he said he’d never done sound before, ha).

From the get go things went pretty smoothly. Riverblind arrived a timely 5 minutes before the start of their set and blasted out some epic tunes which, unfortunately,  I had to  listen to from the ticket desk on the gangway (as organising someone to man the desk what one of the jobs I had neglected to do). Next was The Botanics who pumped out an energetic and funky set (and even covered my favourite Brian Jonestown Massacre song).  Last, but hopefully not least, we were up.  We played a somewhat intoxicated set, if not a little blurry, but it sure was fun and I think we all went pretty hard. In fact, Jaap went so hard he bashed Stefan’s snare skin until it looked like the surface of the moon.

It was a hella fun night in the end and I’m sure Chloe and Aaron had sweet birthdays. The next day, however, wasn’t quite as fun as the P.A. had to be returned at 10am, I hadn’t been to sleep yet and when giving Chloe a ride to her car in the morning we found that it had been towed.

Still, I regret nothing. Bring on San Fran.
